About 20 children are receiving the BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER....the presence of our God and our Lord Jesus Christ! Thx Tom Thompson for that perspective. / John Rennard, via FacebookThe Newtown massacre that happened yesterday in my home state of Connecticut seems to have brought the worst out of this country’s Christians. They’re exhibiting rude, vicious, and insulting behavior like never before … all in the name of using this slaughter in order to promote their Jesus. As I blogged yesterday, Bryan Fischer of the AFA did it, and so did Fox News pundit Mike Huckabee, and militant Creationist Eric Hovind.

But this sort of wingnutty cretinism in the name of Christianity is not limited just to these three. Other Christians — of the ordinary rank-&-file sort — are getting into the act, showing us just how insulting they can be in their effort to spread “the good news” of Jesus Christ and to display their Christian “compassion.”

For instance, an apparently devout Christian named John Rennard made the following announcement on Facebook:

About 20 children are receiving the BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER….the presence of our God and our Lord Jesus Christ! Thx Tom Thompson for that perspective.

Don’t believe me? Fine. You don’t have to. Have a look at the screen-shot of this little gem (thumbnail above, full-size here):

I honestly don’t know what’s worse here … that two Christians (Mr Rennard, and this “Tom Thompson”) actually camme up with this rude pronouncement, or that 46 other people “liked” it on Facebook.

I must thank Mr Rennard, Mr Thompson, and the other Christians who “liked” this, for providing such a sterling example of what’s wrong with Christianity. Well done, guys! My hat’s off to you.

  • thankfully, the tweet is not longer on the page.

    • Fortunately it's been documented as a screen shot, so Rennard can't later claim he never posted any such thing.

  • Pardon my bluntness…

    This is fucked up!

I doubt this has anything to do with real Christians. This is a bit of Troll Bait posted by someone hoping to cause outrage, likely against Chritians. It is sad that people use this terrible event to get attention and to pray on the gullible nature of others who they are enlisting to spread their trash.

    • Honestly, I'd considered this was "trolling" when I first heard about it. But I looked at it myself. And it sure looks genuine. It was on a real person's Facebook wall; he responded to people's comments, generally decrying his words, by continuing to support them. As of tonight, not only is that wall post gone, the entire account is not available.

Please, give me a little credit here. I'm as skeptical as they come and I fully realize there are people who will fake things in order to make other people look bad. But after looking this over, I saw no reason to believe that "John Rennard," whoever he is, was posing or doing anything other than posting what he thought was the truth.

If only I could him or family what he claims is the best Christmas gift.

    • Whoa there, no need to wish anyone harm on this. I prefer to let people's own horrific thoughts speak for themselves. "John Rennard" appears to have closed his Facebook account, so I expect he's had to deal with more than a little of a backlash.

  • Jerky

He closed his facebook account but not his Linkedin account! http://www.linkedin.com/in/johnrennard
