Ann Coulter recently found herself under attack, but not from the folks on the Left. Instead, the Religious Right is taking aim at her! The reasons are not, however, as one might hope, because she’s rude, crude, mean, vile, and — of late — gullible.

Oh no. None of these people would dare call her on the carpet for any of her creepy and generally un-Christ-like behavior. Rest assured, they actually approve of rudeness and nastiness in the name of Jesus.

Rather, they’re angry at her over her support for Mitt Romney a year ago … you know, the guy whose campaign for president ended nearly a year ago. They’ve taken the occasion her her rounds on the Right-wing talk shows to promote her latest raging-spew-in-the-form-of-a-book, to go after her for having done so.

What’s more, someone in the Religious Right has thoughtfully and conveniently cataloged these bizarre, Right-vs.-Right talk-radio confrontations in a YouTube video. (Note, I also found a Web site these guys have set up, specifically to rail against Coulter and demand her unthinking obeisance to their positions, at

Their outrage and sanctimony against her, over a many-months-ago failed presidential candidacy, is laughable. Clearly they have not gotten over the fact that Romney — a (GASP!) Mormon — nearly got the Republican nomination.

Clearly they believe an ardent, unrelenting, mindless opposition to abortion and gay marriage, is the sole qualification for president of the US … and that Romney dared to “waffle” on those issues (GASP!) while governor of Massachusetts, still enrages them, years after he left that office and months after he gave up his presidential campaign.

Clearly, they have not yet figured out that Mormons really are Christians just as they are, even if a little different (most of these guys are Baptists or Pentecostals).

Clearly, these people are so angry over Romney that they’re going after anyone associated with him in any way, and that would include the abrasive and insulting Ann Coulter (whom normally they would support, as they did when she came out with the ridiculous claim that Christians are “perfected Jews.”).

I can think of few better examples of how absurdly crazy these people are — driven to insanity by their furious enslavement to their own irrational dogma. They’re actually attacking a well-known champion of their own faction!

A mind — as the United Negro College Fund slogan so aptly says — is a terrible thing to waste. These guys have not only wasted theirs, they flushed them down the toilet, and are sucking them out of everyone else around them.
