Monk attacked / KVAL-TVI’ve mentioned before that the Great Neocrusade has become violent. It became apparent in the wake of the Paris and San Bernardino Islamist terror attacks, but it’s continued since then.

The latest example of the violent Neocrusade is yet another case of “mistaken identity.” As KVAL-TV reports, a Buddhist monk was attacked by an enraged, sanctimonious anti-Muslim crusader (WebCite cached article):

Kozen Sampson, a Buddhist monk and co-founder of the Trout Lake Abbey retreat, said he was attacked Monday during a visit to Hood River.

He doesn’t remember much, but says a man, who seemingly thought he was Muslim based on his clothing, attacked him for no reason.

“I pulled over, someone ran up and yelled. I turned around, they kicked the door, hit me in the side of the face and knocked my head into the frame of the car,” Sampson said. “I do remember [him yelling] an F bomb [about] Muslims, and that was it.”

Sampson expressed sadness rather than anger for his attacker, which is extremely generous. I’m not impressed with people who are so furious about the existence of Islam, that they not only feel the need to attack Muslims, they can’t even be bothered to figure out if the people they’re attacking are Muslims in the first place.

As I’ve said so many times before in cases like this … I get it. Really. I do. I honestly am aware that Muslim terrorists have attacked people in the name of their religion. I don’t see how anyone with a brain could fail to be aware of that reality. But randomly targeting Muslims — or worse, people who aren’t Muslim but who look different enough that they could be mistaken for Muslims — isn’t going to help stop Islamist terror. It just won’t. No amount of sanctimonious fury can ever change that.

Isn’t it time for Americans to fucking grow the hell up already?

Comments Comments Off on Neocrusader Attacks Buddhist Monk in Oregon

Hep-hep riotsI blogged just a few days ago that the Great Neocrusade — a movement within the Religious Right that I labeled as such a few years ago — had moved from being an instrument of propaganda and Christian apologetics, into outright violence. At the time I specified a number of anti-Mulsim attacks that had taken place, in support of this trend.

Sadly, I must report, this trend continues … and it’s accelerated. Here’s just a sampling of stories over the last couple days:

Even more sadly, it looks as though the violent Neocrusaders aren’t very discriminating. They’ve gone after people who aren’t even Muslims, apparently without even realizing it:

Two notes: This list is not exhaustive! There have been many more anti-Muslim incidents across the country. Second, I acknowledge some of these are victims’ reports, and have yet to be corroborated. Some might turn out to be hoaxes, or may not have been motivated by hatred of Muslims. I will do my best to check these over the next couple of months to verify them.

Yesterday I received angry, private correspondence from someone I presume to be a Neocrusader, accusing me of not realizing that Muslims attacked both Paris and San Bernardino — which I obviously know about, since I blogged about Paris and mentioned San Bernardino; of not “understanding” the nature of the problem and of people’s anger over it — again, I’m obviously aware of that, since I’ve blogged about Islamist terror on countless occasions; and of sympathizing with Islamist terrorists — which also is obviously untrue since I’ve consistently condemned them.

Look, I get it. I do. Really. Honest! Yes, I understand the rage Neocrusaders feel. But I don’t fucking care how much rage seethes inside them! They simply can’t act out on that rage. Grown adults are able to deal with their anger and suppress it, and I expect them to do so. What’s more, the idea that it’s somehow OK to attack innocent Muslims at will, because some terrorists who happen to be Muslim have attacked innocents, is “two wrongs make a right” thinking, and is quite fallacious.

Go ahead, Neocrusaders, be angry, if it makes you feel better to do so. Have at it! Enjoy yourselves. Be as sanctimoniously furious as you want! But … keep it to yourselves. Taking your anger out on others is illegal, and is itself a form of the very same terrorism that got you all enraged in the first place. The better course would be to grow up, suck it up, and fucking control yourselves for once.

Comments Comments Off on The Violent Neocrusade Really is Underway!

Schlacht von ArsufI’ve blogged for years about what I call “the Great Neocrusade,” an effort to outlaw Islam within the US — and once that’s done, perhaps then eradicate it completely from the planet. It’s a campaign ginned up within the Religious Right which has gone from being a “fringe” trope to the mainstream, having recently been overtly embraced even by Republican presidential candidates. Another of those candidates, Donald “it’s his own hair” Trump has decided Muslims should no longer be allowed into the country — until, he says, we’ve “figured out what’s going on, whatever the hell that might mean (WebCite cached article).

If you thought these folk were amped up after the Paris attacks, the shooting in San Bernardino appears to have sent them over the edge (cached). They’re simply not going to stand for those horrible terrorist Muslims living among them any more.

Someone left a severed pig’s head at the door of a Philadelphis mosque (cached). While that’s sickening and vile, though, it’s nothing compared to what else has happened. A Bronx middle-schooler was attacked because she’s a Muslim (cached). A man in Queens was beaten, also, because he too is a Muslim (cached).

In addition to all of the above there have been lots of death threats, often left in the form of voicemails. And a Muslim teen’s death in Seattle may have been an anti-Muslim hate crime, although that case isn’t yet certain (cached).

Yes, the Great Neocrusade has erupted beyond a campaign of mere words and of ridiculous legislative maneuvers that should never have happened, and is now being acted out, physically. Yeah, these are grown-ups we’re supposedly talking about.

Pardon me for pointing this out … but getting into a nationwide pissing contest with other religions over whose followers can be more violent, and whose deity can beat up who else’s deity, isn’t exactly the best way to show off one’s sanctity and righteousness. But then, what could a cold-hearted, cynical, godless agnostic heathen possibly know about such important, holy matters?

Comments Comments Off on The Great Neocrusade Has Gone Violent

Husité - Jenský kodexThe Paris attacks a week ago have brought out the raging Neocrusader which lurks deep inside most Rightists here in the US. GOP presidential contenders have tripped over each other — not to mention themselves — trying to exhibit their Neocrusading credentials. They particularly have their knickers in knots over plans to bring around 10,000 Syrian refugees into the US (WebCite cached article).

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush has said the US should admit only Syrians who can demonstrate they’re Christian (cached). He hasn’t explained how they’re supposed to provide this proof. Plus, wouldn’t a committed Islamist terrorist be able to “fake” being a Christian in order to get into the US, assuming there’s a meaningful way to do so? (And no, don’t assume Islamists would never pass themselves off as belonging to some other religion; there are no safe assumptions one can make about them.)

Then there’s the Christofascist Ted Cruz, Senator from Texas, who likewise called for admitting only Christians from among the Syrian refugees vying for entry (cached). As with the Jebster, Teddie assumes it’s “safe” to admit any Syrian who says s/he’s a Christian, and he doesn’t account for any means to verify such a claim in any serious way.

But neither of these misguided Christianist notions holds a candle to what real estate mogul and leading GOP contender Donald Trump came up with. He’s declared that he wants Muslims in the US to carry special identification and/or be tracked in a special database (cached). Yes, that’s right, he’s proposing we treat Muslims in ways the Third Reich had treated Jews (cached).

Likewise embracing Nazi tactics is Rhode Island state senator Elaine Morgan, who wants Syrian refugees who end up in her state to be placed in special camps (cached). Gee, those sound like concentration camps or internment camps to me.

None of this should be construed as dismissing any possible danger from Syrian refugees. Of course it exists and is real, especially since at least one of the Paris attackers — all of whom were actually European nationals — had returned to Europe posing as a refugee and may have planted a fake or stolen Syrian passport he’d used to come into Greece posing as a refugee (cached). It’s undeniable that a terrorist might try to enter the US as a refugee. But the process of getting to the US is time-consuming — upwards of 18 months, and usually around 2 years (cached). While the vetting process is far from perfect, as administration officials admit (cached) — and Rightists love to use these admissions to justify their Neocrusading impulses — this scenario nevertheless forces enraged Islamist terrorists bent on massacring innocents to sit around and do nothing, somewhere in Europe, for around 2 years before they can reach America. This alone makes it an unlikely tactic for them to use. A much more efficient tactic would be for them to recruit terrorists from among people already in the US or Canada … which has actually been done (cached).

I very much understand the fear these Neocrusaders exploit. It has a basis in reality … but the measures being promised are far too draconian, and won’t guarantee Americans’ safety in any event. What’s needed is better intelligence, and better action on that intelligence, to better pinpoint who the terrorists are, where they are, what they’re up to, and whom they’re in contact with. Broad policies, such as blocking Syrian immigration altogether or applying a specious religious test to it, really aren’t going to be much help, if we’re not willing to apply the intelligence we already have available (which, as Edward Snowden revealed, is extensive).

Not to mention, the average American is much more likely to become a victim of domestic Rightist terror rather than Islamist terror. But that’s another story entirely … !

Comments Comments Off on The Great Neocrusade Is Now Pervasive on the Right

Egypt (as the Soup Nazi) says, 'No YouTube for you!' / PsiCop graphic based on SeinfeldIt appears the world of Islam still hasn’t gotten over the fact that some insolent American-Egyptian Neocrusader dared make a video that insults their religion and its prophet. The Washington Post reports an Egyptian court will ban Youtube in that country for one month, as a “punishment” for having hosted it (WebCite cached article):

An Egyptian court ordered a one-month ban on YouTube on Saturday, after it said the video-sharing Web site had failed to remove an American-made anti-Islam video.

Cairo’s administrative court ruled in response to a suit filed by an independent Egyptian lawyer. Judge Hassouna Tawfiq, who presided over the case, said the ban would also apply to other Web sites that circulated the video, including, potentially, social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

This isn’t the first time an Islamic country has banned Youtube because it carried supposedly blasphemous or sacrilegious content; Paskistan has banned Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter & Blackberry over such whines.

This is Muh-hund cartoon / Lars Vilks, via Wikipediaactually pretty typical; the world’s Muslims commonly rage, fume, riot and kill childishly whenever they think someone has criticized their religion. They cannot, and what’s worse, will not, permit any “dissing” of their religion. Ever. Not even in spite of the fact that criticism of a religion and blasphemy never harms anyone and never can change the basic nature of the religion. If they want to believe in it, they can do so, and no one’s criticism or disrespect can alter that.

Wah wah 'Bombhead' cartoon by K. Westergaardwah, little Muslim crybabies. Grow the fuck up already!

As I always do in cases like this, I’ve added a couple gratuitous anti-Islamic cartoons just to illustrate the power of the Streisand effect (by openly and publicly decrying something, one calls attention to it at a time when otherwise it would have gone unnoticed or unremembered).

Comments Comments Off on Egypt Bans Youtube Over “Innocence Of Muslims” Video

The Masjid Noor mosque – Huntington, NY – Oct 26, 2010 – Photo: Mona Rivera / 1010 WINSThe Neocrusaders who want to eradicate Islam from the United States continue to beat the drums of their militant Christian-inspired hatred. This week they twice vandalized a mosque in Huntington, NY (on Long Island), as reported by WPIX-TV out of New York City (WebCite cached article):

Hate crimes detectives are investigating after a jar of nails was thrown into the driveway of a Long Island mosque in what’s now the second incident in a week.

According to Suffolk County police, authorities were called to the Masjid Noor mosque in Huntington at around 7:45 p.m. after shards of glass and nails were discovered outside the place of worship.

I suppose the vandals might have been teens just looking to make trouble … but this appears too consciously targeted not to have been cooked up by a Neocrusader. I also suppose they could have done a whole lot worse, as did the Neocrusaders who torched a mosque under construction in Murfreesboro TN.

By the way, the name of this Long Island mosque happens to be very close to one in Bridgeport, CT that had been protested back in August by a bunch of Neocrusaders from Texas, about which I blogged at the time.

Oh, and no, I haven’t failed to notice that it was militant Islamists from Yemen who seem to have tried to send bombs to Chicago synagogues via UPS international delivery (cached article). We’re under siege by militant religionists on all sides.
