'He who is not with Me, is against Me.' / Matthew 12:30a, NASB / PsiCop original graphicOne of the things religious fundamentalists like to do, is conflate all their opponents into one huge mass of people, groups and things that are trying to wipe them out completely. I’d remarked on how the Religious Right in the US does this, just last evening, in a forum on Delphi Forums, and I cited as an example Newt Gingrich stating the hilarious non sequitur that “secular atheists” are “radical Islamists.”

The reason for this is their limited, primitive, and binary point of view. In the eyes of religionists, there are “the good guys” and “the bad guys,” all operating on the exact same teams, all working toward the same two goals, and there is no one and nothing in between. They very seriously believe that if you are not with them, you’re against them, and everyone who’s against them is doing so together, under one banner, as a single team, and with a unitary command structure.

As another example, this is why the “Obama is a secret Muslim” notion is so powerful and enduring: It’s an overt claim that the evil Leftist president the R.R. so vehemently hates, also just happens to be a member of the religion it most hates. Coincidence? I think not.

In any event, yet another Christofascist has linked the enemies of the Christian Right … Satan and Leftism. The Devil himself, you see, commands the political Left in the US (WebCite cached article):

End Times broadcaster Jan Markell hosted Michael Coffman this weekend to discuss his new book Plundered: How Progressive Ideology is Destroying America, which argues that progressives seek to engineer America’s demise in order to create a world government.

Markell, of course, claimed Satan was behind it all.

“Satan has used in some cases evil people, in some cases he’s used well-meaning people, but nonetheless the formula of progressivism doesn’t work, it is totally destructive,” Markell said. “These folks would say they don’t need God because they are God, government is a God.”

A lot of people toss the term “demonizing” around, although they almost always use it metaphorically. But Markell is not. She means it literally: Progressives are working with the “the ‘Real’ Satan” — Lucifer, aka the Devil himself — and his demonic hordes.

Note that she’s lying when she says Progressives state explicitly that “government is a God.” I know no Leftists or Progressives who’ve ever said any such thing. She’s woven that accusation out of whole cloth, because she’s projecting her own subjective worldview onto her enemies. This makes her a member of my “lying liars for Jesus” club.

There is, of course, the obligatory Right-wing radio appeal to food hoarding:

Later in the interview, she called on people to begin storing “at least six months’ worth of food” before progressive policies bring about hyper-inflation, which she says may occur “in the next couple of years” and will “throw our economy into such a turmoil that we don’t get food delivered for as much as six or eight months.”

I wonder if there are advertisers on these shows benefiting from this appeal?

Audio clips are available right here:

Because I’m a non-believer, the R.R. would certainly throw me in with Leftists, Communists, Islamists, and yes, the dreaded Satanists — even if I don’t fully agree with any of them. In their minds, I’m a committed member of the Vast Left-Wing/Satanist Conspiracy. If that’s the case, then count me among them! All hail Satan!*

* Just kidding: I can no more “hail” the metaphysical being known as Satan, than I could worship a deity or anything else of the sort.

Comments Comments Off on Christofascist Literally Demonizes Progressives

crying babyNo sooner do I get done blogging about how Christians routinely and pathologically lie about the extent to which their religion has been persecuted — both historically and in the present day — I hear about a new outrage among them that’s got their knickers in a knot over precisely the same thing. It seems Google has decided to celebrate Easter 2013 with one of its “Google doodles” … featuring Cesar Chavez, whose birthday happens to be March 31 (this year, the same day as Easter). The Canadian Press via CTV News reports on their sanctimonious rage over this horrific, intolerable insult (WebCite cached article):

Google’s decision to honour the birthday of U.S. labour organizer Cesar Chavez angered some American Christians on Sunday, who fumed that it was disrespectful to celebrate Chavez with a so-called Google Doodle on Easter Sunday.

The face of Chavez, a Mexican immigrant who organized Latino farm workers in the 1960s, was situated in the middle “o” of the Google logo on Sunday as the search engine giant opted against recognizing a secular holiday to commemorate what would have been the civil rights activist’s 86th birthday.

Conservative websites assailed Google’s decision.

In case you haven’t see it yet, here’s a screen shot of the Google doodle in question:

Already, conservatives have identified what they believe as the source of this outrageous attack on their religion; why, it could only be the hated President Barack Obama:

The Daily Caller expressed confusion about why Google “chose specifically to honour Chavez’s birthday, instead of Easter Sunday.”

The conservative news organization also suggested Obama might have influenced Google’s thinking. Google CEO Eric Schmidt was an “informal adviser” in both of Obama’s presidential campaigns, the Daily Caller reported, was a member of his transition team in 2009 and is apparently rumoured for a cabinet position during the president’s second term.

I’d like to break a little news to these angry conservatives: Google is a company that can do whatever it fucking wants with its Web site. If that means they honor Cesar Chavez’s birthday on Easter Sunday, then that’s what it means. And you know what? There’s not a fucking thing you sniveling crybabies can do to prevent it! Time to stand by your own stated pro-business rhetoric and let a corporation do what it wants to do. Anything else is clearly hypocritical … and if I may point it out, your own Jesus explicitly and unambiguously ordered you never, ever to be hypocritical … not at any time, and not for any reason.

Amusingly, the article notes that conservatives’ anger is so consuming that some of them conflated two different Chavezes (Cesar, and Hugo):

Others on social media praised Google for honouring Chavez and mocked those who confused him with Hugo Chavez, the recently deceased Venezuelan president.

The Twitter account for The Twitchy, conservative pundit Michelle Malkin’s right-wing news outlet, initially claimed Google was honouring the late revolutionary.

That they’d confuse two different men, both of whom they despise passionately, is just hilarious! I can hardly keep from laughing at their stupidity and ignorance.

At any rate, none of this is unexpected. Religious Rightists simply can’t tolerate anything that they view as “dissing” their religion. They view any slight to their faith as a very real “attack” on their persons, little different from being punched in the face or held up at gunpoint. That companies like Google are free to decorate their Web sites however they wish, is irrelevant in the face of this perceived insult. They quite simply refuse to tolerate any apparent disrespect for their religion.

Because expressing how dumb that was in words, just doesn't work.No sooner had I blogged about a report of a military chaplain declaring that a soldier’s rape is “God’s will” and that she could get over it by worshipping the deity who ordered it to happen to her, I read about an outspoken Religious Rightist giving her (yes, her!) stamp of approval on the sexual assault of CBS reporter Lara Logan during a post-revolution celebration in Cairo (WebCite cached article). Here’s what the ferocious religiofascist Debbie Schlussel had to say about it (cached article):

As I’ve noted before, it bothers me not a lick when mainstream media reporters who keep telling us Muslims and Islam are peaceful get a taste of just how “peaceful” Muslims and Islam really are. In fact, it kinda warms my heart. Still, it’s also a great reminder of just how “civilized” these “people” (or, as I like to call them in Arabic, “Bahai’im” [Animals]) are

To Schlussel, this attack on Logan is acceptable, because of what’s been dished out to her:

Hey, sounds like the threats I get from American Muslims on a regular basis. Now you know what it’s like, Lara.

Of course, death threats that are made but never carried out are a far cry from an actual physical attack. But Schlussel just conflates it all into the same thing and — using “two wrongs make a right” thinking — says it’s great that Logan was attacked.

In an update to her post, Schlussel simultaneously claims moral rectitude and that she never expressed approval of the attack:

The reaction of the left to this article is funny in its predictability. Sooo damn predictable. Of course I don’t support “sexual assault” or violence against Lara Logan, and I said that nowhere here.

Schlussel must be right, you see, because she’s been widely criticized. (In the religious mind, criticism is equated with persecution which in turn is equated with veracity.) She also claims not to have supported sexual assault, but her support for the attack was clearly implied in what she originally wrote, which included (emphasis mine):

it bothers me not a lick when mainstream media reporters who keep telling us Muslims and Islam are peaceful get a taste of just how “peaceful” Muslims and Islam really are …

Schlussel clearly stated that she was “not bothered” by the attack. Thus, her attempt to backpedal, by saying she never stated that she supports sexual assault, fails miserably.

Way to go, Ms Schlussel. Thank you for displaying your (total lack of) character. Please, by all means … keep it up! I couldn’t possibly ask for any better confirmation of the moral abyss which is the Religious Right.
